How does a driver fatigue monitoring system work?
A driver fatigue monitoring system uses in-cabin technology to detect signs of tiredness and distraction in real time. The Cipia-FS10 is an in-cabin driver-monitoring add-on that connects to a compatible telematics device installed in the vehicle. It uses computer vision, artificial intelligence, and infrared sensing to monitor the driver while the vehicle is on the road. It tracks indicators such as head position, eyelid movement, gaze direction, and driver identity to assess the driver’s state and actions.

When the device detects a risky event, such as driver drowsiness or not wearing a seat belt, it immediately triggers an in-cabin audio and visual alert to refocus the driver.

At the same time, the Cipia-FS10 can capture the event details, including the location and the start and end times of the event. The Cipia-FS10 does not operate as a standalone telematics device. Instead, the event details are passed to a compatible telematics unit installed in the vehicle, which uses its connectivity to send the information to the 3Dtracking platform.

In our platform, fleet managers can view the events detected by the Cipia-FS10 and relayed through the connected device. We can also configure the platform to send real-time alerts by email or SMS for specific event types or specific drivers, so it’s easier for your clients to respond to the most relevant risks as they happen.
How do you know if a driver is fatigued?
Cipia’s FS10 add-on detects fatigue by monitoring specific driver indicators. These events are then relayed through the connected device to the 3Dtracking platform.
Your clients can pull reports from the 3Dtracking platform on these various drowsiness and distraction events, alongside other trip details such as vehicle location. This gives fleet managers a 360 picture of driver risk, both in the moment and over time.
