Driver behavior management with Howen cameras & 3Dtracking’s platform

Written by admin | Mar 6, 2020 12:00:00 AM

Harsh braking is not always a bad habit to correct. Sometimes, it’s the impulsive action of a careful driver whose split second reasoning saves pedestrians and passengers and protects the vehicle and its contents. The best way to tell the difference, without relying on subjective feedback from multiple parties, is fleet video monitoring.

To bring this 360° view of driver behavior to you and your fleet management clients, we support Howen Technologies camera devices on the 3Dtracking platform; most recently, their 4 CH AHD SD Card MDVR (Model Hero-ME41-04). This unit’s functionality, data quality, reliability, and ease of use align naturally with our own mission to make things easier for our partners.

This integration has proven to be exactly what our global partner network needs to help fleet managers manage driver behavior - fairly and easily.

“This unit was developed specifically to improve and enhance line of sight into driver behavior,” explains Shamy Luo, Product Director at Howen.

We at 3Dtracking are constantly upgrading our platform features to make sure we offer solutions that add value to fleet management solution providers and their clients. A video solution does just that.

Key takeaways:

  • Howen cameras add video context to driver behavior events like harsh braking and speeding.

  • 3Dtracking connects driver behavior data, trip insights, and video footage in one easy-to-use platform.

  • Armed with this data and footage, fleet managers can coach drivers more fairly and investigate incidents faster.

About Howen’s solution

The Howen 4 CH AHD SD Card MDVR, Model Hero-ME41-04 unit connects to a wide range of cameras and records key driving events, such as:

  • Aggressive acceleration

  • Harsh braking

  • Speed

  • And the driver’s actions inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

It’s a compact unit, making installation and maintenance easy, and includes data self-protection, so important data isn’t lost even if the unit shuts down unexpectedly.

How do Howen cameras work with the 3Dtracking platform?

Once the Howen camera solution is installed in a vehicle, video data becomes available directly on the 3Dtracking platform.

When a driver brakes harshly, accelerates aggressively, or drives over the assigned speed limit, the camera solution records a video clip of the event. The user can then request video footage from any of the four channels available on the Howen camera solution and:

  • View specific driver behavior events and the related video footage in a centralized location.

  • Play video clips directly inside our platform.

  • Download footage to their computer or laptop (only if the device is online).

Real world example

On the 3Dtracking platform, we can configure alerts to fire for specific driving events of interest to your clients. If a driver accelerates aggressively, for example, this is highlighted on the platform, and the user can click on the incident to view the related video, understand what happened, and decide what action to take next.

Consider this the start of data-informed coaching that empowers drivers and reduces risky behavior on the road.

Did you know? Video-based driver coaching reduces harsh braking events by 35%².

How does this video solution support driver behavior management?

Identify risky behavior

Monitor events such as harsh braking, aggressive acceleration, speeding, and other behavior patterns through 3Dtracking’s driver behavior capabilities, with video footage adding extra context to moments of doubt.

Improve driver safety

When driving behavior is monitored and reviewed through the platform, fleet managers can encourage safer habits and spot repeat issues that cost their business money over time.

Support better driver training

Rely on real footage from driving events, incidents, or collisions alongside 3Dtracking’s driver behavior data to guide more practical and fair coaching conversations. Seeing is believing, and it’s hard to argue with fleet video monitoring.

Provide video evidence

Use recorded footage and supporting trip data to help investigate accidents, verify what happened, and protect drivers or businesses from wrongful accusations.

Spot operational inefficiencies

Use 3Dtracking’s host of reports, trip history, and vehicle activity insights to identify issues such as delivery delays, excessive idling, poor route behavior, and other patterns that affect fleet performance. Coupled with Howen’s cameras, we offer a truly holistic solution to driver behavior management challenges.

Did you know? Video telematics can lower claims by 40%, saving $100,000+ yearly¹.
